What happens in a few minutes could have results that last a lifetime
I found it interesting that something that happens in a few minutes, could have results that could last a lifetime. Being Jonathan, he could express this very well. "Lets be quick about it,' the Corporal called," it says in the book. In just a few minutes, they decided on a descision that would have results lasting a lifetime. Going to war, people getting killed, results in lifetime pain. Jonathan had a twisted perception of war. In only about an hour, his view changed completely. "He jumped up. 'Don't shoot!' he cried," it says on page 59. About an hour ago, he would have never done that. After seeing the truth of war, he made decisions he would have never thought of. Truly, war can happen in just an hour, and leave results that last a lifetime.

One could agree with Sabrina's blog. Jonathan probably knew he only had a minute to do something when surrounded by the Hessian soliers. There is also the example of when the Corporal yelled "Load your guns. Two rounds per minute." Jonathan could't even load one round per minute. Perhaps if Jonathan had loaded a musket before and were a foot or two taller, he would be equal to the other soldiers.

One's decision could effect them for the rest of their lifes. Joanthan's choice of going to war will scar him forever. What he saw, what he experienced will never go away; it will always be a nightmare. It took him 5 mintues to load one shot and by the time he got the second one loaded, he might as well be dead. Jonathan is much to young to go to war, but he doesn't realize it; not until it was too late.Once Jonathan went into war, he could barely stand. Once the Hessians charged at him, he ran. He ran as far as he could. In those few minutes, Jonathan was for the first time, scared. It was frighting to him. After all, he was only twelve years old. Everyone had backed away and Jonathan felt isolated. Those few minutes affected him in such a harsh way, he became frighten of war. Before Jonathan had gone to war, he was excited to go to war. Once he experienced what war was really about, he wouldn't dare go back. In the few minutes he was in war, Jonathan felt what is was like for a real soldier.
A real Soldat.
