Jonathan was going to war so someone asked "Got his gun?"pg 11All the soldiers was going into war someone said"We must be all soldiers now."pg 10 ERICK 706
I have evidence for Jonthans decision going to war. One of the was on page 23: The man gave Jonathan a quick look as if surprised to see him there. Instead of giving an answer he said,"What are you doing here?" "Going to fight," said Jonathan. "I heard there were enemy troops." "Fifteen, twenty or so. Where are they going? What are they trying to do? Some thing happen?"
I think Johnathon is confident about winning the battle because on pg 23, the coperal told the men that there were 20 to 25 enemy troops instead of 15. Every one else was nervous except for him.
Sheikh Uddin 705 I realized that the theme of this book by Avi is war. "At the highest point, only a little way beyond, was pocktown, where they were going to fight" (pg.24). This means that the regiment where Jonathan was in is going to war to fight. "During the past winter he had fought near Philadelphia and been wounded in the leg." (pg.3). This means that Jonathan's father had been in the war.
Maggie, I realized that you brought up a good citation, but you didn't explain it. I thought about using this comment, but i decided it was way to long.
Erick N Ms.Roura i think that jonathan is not ready for war because. He dosent take the war to seriouse and he may die if he goes to war.And also i think that he dosent belongin the war because he cant even carry a gun.
Erick N. when somebody ask jonathan if he could use a gun he said "yes i do" But when he got the gun he was letting left back.Which means that he couldnt carry the the gun and it was to hevy. so when he look evry man was in front.pg 19 705
Erick i think is right saying that he isn`t ready for war. I can approve beacause his fahter a army veteran says he`s not ready. Know that he is in the real world it is nothing that he expected. He thought it was like a game. truly jonathan was very wrong.
I realized that the soldiers were really nervous about the war because in the story it says "Sir,if they do come, it'll be your home they burn as well as mine." I felt that that soldiers were trying top do anything they could so this won't happen.
the theme that stands out the most in this book is war.jonathan is only 13 and he wants to go to war,but his father does not want him to go."jonathan dreamed of one day taking up a gun himself, and fighting the enemy.jonathan decided to disobey his father becaue he is desperate to go to war.
to d.e.v i think that your statement is wrong because it doesn't matter if he's a veteran and that proves that Jonathon is rite because the only reason that he doesn't want Jonathon to go to war is because its his son and hes worried what might happen to him.
Jonathan always wanted to go to war. Although his father was scared but jonathan wasnt. He ended up going to a camp site to begin war. A strange man came up to him and asked "Do you have a gun?"pg 11 The men said we all must be soldiers now. So they began the war. Then the strange man gave a big gun to jonathan to start of his time at war.
ms.roura i think jonathan is ready to be in a war because he saids in the book his father has tought him how to be ready for drills and how to handle being in a war nd the risks they have in becoming a soldier.
erick n. i think you may have a point in your answer. Jonathan may not be ready for war after all. If he cant handle a gun theres a problem because when you go to war you always have to handle a heavy gun. Also, he may be to young because it is posible for him to get killed while hes so young.
I have chosen war because Jonathan said " O' Lord, make it be a battle". Now coming from this statement it seems that Jonathan wants this war to be a battle. But of course he does not know what could possibly happen to him. He has no clue what everyday soldiers go though with. I think this is how the statement " O' Lord, make it be a battle" relates to war. PG.9
The statement I would like to comment on is "All is fair in war." I believe that if you knowingly enter war, you should expect every dirty trick the enemy might use. All tricks are fair, there are no such things as rules in war. So, for that reason I agree with the statement "All is fair in war".
If I were Jonathan I would have never decided to go to war in my whole life. I would have made a choice; to stay with my family and protect them at home."'Don't you by God-don't you go beyond!'"(pg.6)His father said. I would have listened to him and have stayed. On the other hand he went away telling lies. Truly, we are not alike and I can even prove it to everyone. Melissa 7-5
i SO agree with Melissa, i would never go to war...then again everybody has their own opinion. Either way, Jonathon should have listened to his father and wait to go to war.

What can you observe about this dialogue? Does is show that Jonathan is prepared for war or not?
Ms. Roura I think he is because it seems he wants to fight because he is observing the enemy troops so now he is going.
ms.roura i dont think hes ready for war beacause hes too young and he think war is a video game but you can get hurt and die and hes too young to die

I agree with Sheik, Maggie you have a great citation but it needs your explanation!
